Vertex piston pins are typically made of alloy steel with a case-hardening treatment. Standard pistons and components are interchangeable with the respective OEM products. All pistons are heat-treated to a T5 or T6 hardening cycle. To aid break-in and reduce wear, every Vertex piston features a molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) coating on the entire piston body.

Vertex Pistons for 4-Stroke Engines

Four-stroke engines have much higher cylinder pressures than two-stroke engines; pistons are generally produced by hot forging.

Vertex pistons for 4-stroke engines are hot forged from 2618 aircraft-grade alloy, a premium product that guarantees superior strength and durability. Vertex uses exclusive profiles and head shapes derived from team development to maximize power, torque, and overall performance, while reducing oil consumption and blow-by.

The latest-generation piston rings for 4-stroke engines are made of steel with nitriding or chrome plating treatments to increase wear resistance and improve lifespan.
