Vertex pistons are entirely made in Italy and are original equipment for numerous European motorcycle and go-kart manufacturers, most notably KTM. The rings assembled by Vertex on its pistons are manufactured in Japan to the highest industry standards by the OEM suppliers of major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers and are interchangeable with the original products.

Vertex piston pins are typically made of alloy steel with a case-hardening treatment. Standard pistons and components are interchangeable with the respective OEM products. All pistons are heat-treated to a T5 or T6 hardening cycle. To aid break-in and reduce wear, every Vertex piston features a molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) coating on the entire piston body.

Vertex Pistons for 2-Stroke Engines

Because cast pistons can have a higher silicon content than forged pistons, and because cylinder pressures in 2-stroke engines are lower than in 4-stroke versions, cast pistons are ideal for this application.

Vertex 2-Stroke pistons are gravity-cast from an aluminum alloy with an 18% silicon content. The silicon content reduces thermal expansion, which causes the profile geometry to change after the piston reaches operating temperature.

Due to their reduced thermal expansion characteristics, Vertex 2-Stroke pistons can operate with tighter tolerances than forged pistons. This ensures a significant increase in power and durability, with the assurance of quieter operation and a failure-free lifespan.

The latest-generation piston rings for 2-stroke engines are made of steel with nitriding or chrome plating treatments to increase wear resistance and improve their lifespan.

Vertex 2-Stroke Top End Kit

To facilitate piston changes on modern off-road racing motorcycle engines. A single kit provides the essential components for proper piston replacement.

For 2-stroke motorcycles, the kit comes complete with a piston with the relevant piston pin retaining clips, piston pin, piston rings, needle bearing, and a complete top end gasket kit: base gasket, head gasket, and all other gaskets needed for the cylinder kit depending on the application.
